Auricular Webs: Spirit Ecologies, Transmission Rituals, and Psychic Listening for AADPI Diasporic Futures with Zaneta Sykes
Interdisciplinary artist Zaneta (they.them) shares their work field recording and collaborating with the dead, communicating with the land through dreams and psychic listening, and tending spirit ecologies through listening and transmission rituals.
Zaneta (they.them) is a queer, multi-Filipinx, Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist, sound ritualist, listening educator, percussionist, and podcast host. At the core of their work is a deep desire for remembering our interconnectedness or the Filipinx term, kapwa. It is towards this collective vision of care that Zaneta weaves field recording, ritual, channeling, and somatic listening practices to create experiences that transform the way participants listen and relate to the world. Specifically their work focuses on tending spirit ecologies between humxn and non-humxn communities through listening and transmission rituals. Zaneta has presented in spaces such as the Brooklyn Museum and New Women’s Space and in both 2020 and 2022, their projects Sacred Seasons and Where Land Meets Sky: Geophonic Transmissions for the Body, were awarded the Brooklyn Arts Council award.
